SERVICES OFFERED

HOP PICKING

Mechanical hop harvesting. This service can only be provided if farm and harvester are close in distance.

DRYING

Drying of harvested hops is the most critical point in preparing a marketable crop. The grower may do this at the farm, or may contract to the processor. Drying can only be contracted to the processor if there is a short time between picking and delivering the hops to be dried.

PELLETING

Milling and pelleting whole dried cones to brewing industry standards, T-90 Pellet. Hops are processed according to the Ohio Hop Growers Guild’s quality standards, which follows the highest industry protocol to produce excellent hop pellets for brewers to use. Pelleting is done on a 10 hp Lawson Mills Pellet Mill specifically designed for hops and engineered with a cooling drum keeping the temperature below 102 degrees protecting the quality of  hop oils.

PACKAGING

Vacuum packaging pellets into moisture/light barrier mylar bags. Pellets may be packaged with or without nitrogen.

THINGS TO KNOW

MOISTURE CONTENT

Your hops must be dried down to between 8-10% moisture and kept cool in 34-42 degree environment prior to pelleting. If they come in with high moisture content, either the grower can take them back and complete the drying process or contract with the processor to dry down at an hourly rate.

PROPER DELIVERY HANDLING

Hops should be transported in a way to minimize heat and breaking down of crop/oils.

LAB TEST

Growers are responsible for a chemical analysis of their hops so that this can be logged and labelled along with variety, weight, and grower, per lot.

10-POUND MINIMUM

Since there is a 5-8% loss during the pelleting due to the process, at least 10 lbs. of hops is needed.

CALL AHEAD

Communication and timing are critical. Please make arrangements with your processor at the beginning of the season to let them know your needs so we can be sure to reserve a day for your hops. It’s important to be in frequent communication closer to harvest regarding expected harvest day. Timing is very important to create the highest quality pellet for your brewer.
